Projects funded by JMF to date
– August 18th 2015 – JMF donates £2740.00 to Brain Tumour Research to fund a day of research
– November 2016 JMF funds vital research looking at the Blood Brain Barrier by donating £28000.00 to contribute as part of The Grand Challenge a unique fundraising partnership between Brain Tumour Research & Dr.Hadwen Trust.
– September 2017 – JMF fund a 3 year grant for Dr.Diana Leite a senior research associate at University of Portsmouth, to work on ‘Novel methods for screening treatments for adult brain tumours’ Dr.Leite, from Porto, recently obtained her PhD from the University of Portsmouth on research into a novel targeted drug delivery system able to carry cytotoxic drugs across the blood brain barrier for the treatment of Glioblastoma multiforme, which is the most common & aggressive brain tumour in adults ( carrying a mean prognosis of 14 months) With the money raised by all of our amazing supporters we are able to fund this 3 year appointment at a cost of £168000.00. The programme will look into the delivery of drugs across what’s known as ‘The Blood Brain Barrier’. Our brains are so good at defending us from anything bad attacking our brains that it also makes it difficult to get anything across the barrier when treating tumours. So this research will be making an incredible contribution by looking into how we can get these drugs into the brain to improve treatment of Glioblastoma – the exact kind of tumour Jake had.

-We welcomed Prospero Civita BSc,MSc,PhD, to take over the work of Dr.Leite in 2018. Prospero then moved to Cardiff University to continue his research and the JMF continued to support his projects for a further 10 months at a cost of £45000.00.

The campaign target was to raise £120000.00 for Cannabinoid clinical trial: Treating Glioblastomas ‘Glioblastoma(GBM) is the most common type of brain tumour in adults and an average survival is only 12-18 months. This statistic hasn’t improved in 20 years and treatment options are limited. Cannabinoids may help treat GBM’s’ This was why this trial was so important to Jake’s Foundation so we donated £5000.00 to help with their target.
