Jake was a vibrant, beautiful 24 year old until he started to experience headaches at the end of October 2012. He repeatedly visited his GP & was treated for migraines. At the beginning December 2012 Jake took a 10 day holiday to Thailand with his older brother Josh, where he suffered a seizure & went into a coma. Jake was rushed to hospital & found to have a large mass on the left frontal lobe of his brain. Despite emergency surgery to remove what we then knew was a Glioblastoma, a deadly type of brain tumour, Jake passed away on 24th December 2012, just 8 weeks after his headaches began, with his family beside him. We want to raise awareness of Brain Tumours to prevent other families from experiencing such a devastating loss.
Our aim was to raise awareness of this deadly disease to prevent other families from the devastation of losing a loved one.
The charity turned 11 in January 2024 & in total we have raised an incredible £437,481.00 so far, all thanks to the generosity of family, friends & our wonderful local community, who have given up their time to join us in our fundraising efforts. All this being testament to our wonderful Jake who touched so many peoples hearts in his short life.
The fundraising comes primarily from our signature annual cycling event – Ride For Jake – but also through groups and individuals taking on challenges and events. This is mostly friends, family and extended acquaintances within our network.
But we’ve perhaps reached a stage of local saturation and a need to reach a wider audience beyond our immediate local community if we’re to champion our cause further.
